BIG Annual Mens Winter Camp Highlights
This is this winter's version of an annual Alaskan winter men's campout that has been going on for several decades. I camped out for 4 days at this campout and then Connie went back in to the same location and her and I camped out another 3 days. Seven great days of winter camping. I didn't want it to end. The video is highlights of those two campouts.

    Thanks for the survival kit contents video. I hope you and Connie have a great July 4th and get to see some fireworks. We have a place that's about 100 yards from the fireworks launch location. Depending on the wind direction, exploded fireworks rocket parts sometimes cascade down to us. LOL.

    I just wastched a video of some dude talking about the difference between SS and Carbon. He said you can't spark on SS. I'm not ourdoorsman, but I was pretty sure I sparked a few times off my SS pocket knife while straping off the coating from my keychain rod. Figured I'd look it up really quick, and sure enough, you have proved him wrong. Now if you excuse me, I'm off to block him from RUclips recommending his vids. ty

      He is correct if he was referring to sparks using flint, quartz, jasper, chert etc when using with stainless steel. However if he was referring to using stainless steel with ferrocerium rods then yes he was wrong. Thanks for stopping by.

    I lived in one like this for a year. Ended up homeless in tge beginning of winter during a pretty bad storm with freezing rain and snow. Add as much insulatiin as possible. Moss, leaves, even line the interior walls with any extra clothes or bedding you can spare if possible. I also dug my fireplace into the ground and built more of a fireplacr like structure to create thermal mass and if you can, keep a pot of water or beens or chilli going. You wont have to get up every 15 minutes to add more wood and maintains the temperature inside. Oh, and another priceless addition, a funnel or makr one with a bottle and a length of water hose running away from the tipi through the wall. Im sure any man can figure out how this would be priceless at 2am when its 12° f with 30mph winds and freezing rain outside.lmao. Last thing you want to do is go outside right then😂.

    Can the tin have holes in the bottom as well or only in the top?

    • @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival
      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival 7 дней назад

      I think that it would be best to have holes only in the top. That way the holes can be watched closely for the progression of the process. If holes were also in the bottom one could not be entirely sure that the top hole which is being observed is not plugged or partially plugged allowing the smoke and gasses to escape out the unseen bottom.

    Epoxy or solder some wire legs to the back of the tin, bent like giant paperclips for storage. Doing this with an emergency mylar bivvie sack would also be very effective. Really this is a old school ponch trick. A cardboard spiral makes for a giant type of wick if you need to heat things up inna hurry too. Also if you use tallow instead of wax it has more uses.

    I got to get me a hat like yours, thank you for the video. Question. Can you mix it with coffee and add sugar and creamer, just like with regular coffee? I'm kinda coffeeholic heheh. Thumbs up.

    • @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival
      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival 9 дней назад

      I have never tried mixing it with coffee so I just don't realistically know what that would be like. I too very much enjoy coffee and I drink it black so that I can taste the coffee. I purposely select beans, roasters and methods of brewing for a flavor that I enjoy. So I am reluctant to add anything to my coffee such as this Dandelion root coffee. However feel free to experiment and try it. If you don't like it you can always throw the remaining out if you so desire.

    I only have one tarp. Well, actually I have about 5 tarps, but only one of them is lightweight. It's about 10x12 and one of the heavy duty tarps I have is the same size. So I think I will try out that configuration. I'm not as flexible as I used to be, so I like my tents tall and spacious.

Have followed Connie. and Lonnie for a longtime and have found them full of great advice and even at 78 yrs old i find that there are new things to learn so listen up and try out all the ideas they put forward practice with small fires on a cold and wet day with only what you can find and see how that works . How will that kinda of fire do in rain and snow

    • @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival
      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival 21 день назад

      This firelay would not be the best in rainy conditions since it is designed to burn slowly over a large area. A smaller hotter burning fire would handle rain and snow better. However, any fire can be covered to protect them from precipitation if that is a concern. See the video at the link below if you are not familiar with sheltering a fire and/or wish to learn more about it. Protecting A Campfire From The Rain ruclips.net/video/NQH8cCEt6C8/видео.html
